SACRED PAWS were named the winner of this year’s The SAY Award last night.
Held at Paisley Town Hall in conjunction with the town’s 2021 City Of Culture bid, the ceremony;co-hosted by Vic Galloway and Nicola Meighan, was the sight of fantastic musical performances from Be Charlotte, Elephant Sessions, The Spook School and last year’s winner Anna Meredith.
In the face of fierce competition from a strong shortlist of Scotland’s most innovative talent including Honeyblood, Mogwai and C Duncan, the duo of Rachel Aggs and Eilidh Rodgers received the top prize of £20,000 and the prestigious honour of this year’s best Scottish album for their debut LP Strike A Match.
Following their victory, Aggs said of the win:
““I just want to say thank you so much, thanks to the SAY Award, thanks to the judges, thanks to everyone at Rock Action and I can’t believe it! I’m trying really hard not to swear! We are not always the most confident people and I think playing music has a lot to do with confidence so this is completely overwhelming and we don’t feel like we belong here but at the same time we feel validated for what we do. Thank you.”
