soundcloudAFTER signing a licensing deal with Warner Music Group last year, Soundcloud has now signed an agreement with 20,000 independent labels.

The deal will allow them to receive royalties, which Soundcloud began to pay last year. It was confirmed in August 2014 that the website began including advertising on its streams, which allows artists and record labels to collect royalties.

Speaking about the latest developments, SoundCloud founder Alexander Ljung said: “Independent creators have always been at the core of SoundCloud, and with this partnership we’re thrilled to extend new revenue-generating opportunities to thousands of independent labels.”

Last month, Sony pulled the music of its artists from SoundCloud after a licensing agreement could not be reached.
