SWIM, the Scottish Women Inventing Music collective, have announced a special event with Vick Bain.

The music industry consultant and lecturer will host an evening at The Scottish Music Centre on Wednesday 19th February, offering insight into the representation of women in music.

Bain’s report, Counting The Music Industry, sent shockwaves through the music business when it was released in late 2019. Bain found that just 20% of artists signed to 219 record labels and 14% of the 12,040 writers signed to music publishers are female. During the SWIM event Bain will discuss why there’s such an imbalance, why it matters and what we need to do about it.

Taking place from 6pm-8pm, the night will also include an introduction by SWIM founder Hilary Brooks, an interview with Help Musicians’ Scotland Manager and SWIM Board Member Suzanne Miller , an open Q&A and a networking opportunity.

Tickets can be found here.

SWIM have a series of events and meet-ups coming up that you can find out about here. The collective will be hosting a Women In Music meet-up on Wednesday 29th January at the CCA and a members meeting on Saturday 15th February. New members and those looking to find out more about SWIM are welcome to both events.
