THE high street’s most alternative (or hipster) chain, Urban Outfitters has coveted its relationship with all things cool since its conception, branching out from clothing to sell coffee-table books, cameras and record players. The shop stocks a fairly extensive and admittedly eclectic array of vinyl records and has certainly had a hand in the medium’s mainstream revival.

As a result Record Store Day has fast become a growing, global celebration of music and vinyl with numerous bands now releasing limited editions, tracks, B-sides and rarities every year. It now seems cassette tapes want a revival of their own with their very own Cassette Store Day following the RSD formula set to gain increasing popularity.

Urban Outfitters don’t miss a trick so it’s no real surprise that various outlets are set to partake in this year’s 3rd annual Cassette Store Day; releasing their own ‘Mixtape’. Their website is already advertising tapes by Marina and the Diamonds, Death Cab for Cutie, Action Bronson and Halsey with ALVVAYS, Japandroids, Beach House, Run the Jewels and Foals expected to follow soon. They are also selling Cassette players.

All Tapes and players are available here. For more information on the forthcoming Cassette Store Day visit their website.
