A string of world renowned artists have pledged their unwavering support to bring back ‘Rock Radio Glasgow.’
Originally known as Q96 before morphing into a station which was entirely dedicated to the much adored genre, it was eventually replaced in 2014 by the now defunct XFM but that certainly hasn’t stopped longtime listeners pleading for its return.
Believing that the rock community is a market which remains ‘un-served by local radio’ due to its predilection for more mainstream commercial music, the campaign to bring back Rock Radio Glasgow has found support from acts such as Eagles of Death Metal, Anthrax, Black Stone Cherry, Machine Head and Scotland’s own The Lafontaines.
Speaking in reference to the viability of the station but also its possible job creating power, Rock Radio head Ciaran O’Toole has stated the following:
“I took an educated guess back in October 2015 that this FM radio license would be advertised by OFCOM in early 2016 and that it could be an opportunity to do something really interesting. Launching a Rock Radio station that is backed by music business professionals who would have a vested interest in ensuring the stations success in the market.
Should we win, we have plans to create around 12 full time jobs and a range of freelance roles, we will be based in Glasgow city centre and the plan is to be on air in Q1 2017. If we are not successful, we have plan B. We are completely committed to bringing back Rock Radio to the West of Scotland.”
Those wishing to back the campaign can do so by getting involved with their special Bring Back Rock Radio Bash at The Garage in September.
