TWO very unusual things occurred on Saturday night; Glasgow’s small and intimate Broadcast venue hosted a gig to one of the most influential guitarists from the last 20 years, Albert Hammond Jr. Intimate settings aside, the clock struck 45 minutes past midnight before Hammond took to the petite stage, ready to rattle out tracks from his impressive back catalogue following the release of his new EP AHJ. All unusual happenings take place after dark.

The buzz within the venue was electric, the crowd heavily sozzled well into the small hours, the Glaswegians embraced New Yorker Hammond as one of their own as the temperature and volume soared into a rock-worthy scale.

Hammond’s vocals were on top form as he played tracks from his two studio albums Yours to Keep, Como Te Llama? and of course the new EP AHJthe crowd’s reaction to new single St Justice peaking during the set.

The highlight of the night has to go to In Transit; an old Strokes demo that never did get used. The one that got away, if you will, In Transit is Strokes all over.

In a city that pushes the boundaries with live music every single night, with gigs popping up in clubs and dives all over the city; Glasgow is seriously behind the times when it comes to the clocks. These early morning shows are where its at- guaranteed atmosphere and spirit that just doesn’t take off two pints in.
