Nile

THE field became a disco-tech when Nile Rogers took to the stage with Chic. Playing a tremendous set of funky beats, the sixty-year-old legend had the kids, the fans and his peers like putty in his hands.

“We’re Chic, we’re not a covers band. These are our songs. And we want you to sing and dance,” he said in his glistening white suit with two mesmerizing singers on each side- suitably contrasting his get-up in sequin gold and black feathers.

With the sky painted a perfect shade of baby blue and pastel pink, Chic took to the Main Stage opening with disco anthems that alighted the crowd from every corner.

As toddlers danced on their parents shoulders, teenagers engaged in criminal disco moves that were banned in the 1980’s.

Smouldering from the left to the right of the stage with his prized guitar, Rodgers looked on in awe of the female-led vocals and the erupting crowd. Who would of thought we could describe Wickerman’s festival field as a dance floor?

The vocals and rhythms were on-point, and as Rodgers introduced the Diana Ross track Upside Down, the crowd sang the melody and catchy chorus before it had even begun.

This anthem-led ten minutes became a beautiful arrangement of tunes that saw his chat with the crowd drowned out by cheers of glee. Sister Sledge anthems made a couple of appearances, He’s the Greatest Dancer receiving a great response. We Are Family particularly poetic given the ample amount of parents and siblings endearingly sharing the moment.

Of course Thinking of you and Le Chic were all included, bringing everyone up to the point of euphoria, and with a mass amount of people pouring in from the campsite and sister stages this was moment that everyone wanted to be involved in.

As the band walked off the stage the PA played Get Lucky giving the band the sending off they deserved, the crowd’s reaction causing Rodgers to remain on the stage. The moment became mesmerizing as Rodgers showed as much excitement as the crowd. As he clapped and sang his way through the Daft Punk track that has saw him become responsible for the most successful song of 2013- it was a moment Wickerman festival and their fans will never forget.

With much interaction with the crowd, Nile Rodgers became the god of the evening, and the grassy sunny field was his church. Sing it with me now…..
