A huge buzz surrounds Australia’s Tame Impala. Now onto unleash their second album it was no surprise their Glasgow gig at 02 ABC was a sell out.

The release of the band’s hugely anticipated second album “lonerism” has gained rave reviews from various corners of the worlds press. The Flaming Lips and Noel Gallagher are amongst the bands famous followers and shows in the US are almost all a sell-out.

Ten minutes before the band were due to take to the stage the crowd was buzzing for the anticipated show. 02 ABC was packed full and the atmosphere from the excitable crowd was incredible. I think everyone knew they were in for something pretty special on the cold November evening in Glasgow.

Tame Impala took to the stage opening with an atmospheric build up of an intro, the crowd began to sway along together in sync with an anticipation of what was going to happen. Then the intro suddenly stopped and the psychedelic guitar tones of “solitude is bliss” were received with a massive roar for the crowd. Tame Impala had arrived.

It all seemed like such an effortless performance from one of the most laid back acts I have ever come across. Unlike other bands, watching Tame Impala play songs such as “endors toi” and “music to walk home by” you can actually feel the music, which gives you no option other than move with it. It seems to take a hold of your mind and you can do nothing but be captivated in the grasp it seems to have on you.

Singer and the driving force behind Tame Impala, Kevin Parker interacts with his audience for the first time a whole thirty minutes into the set as he announces that he hopes they can cut loose for the next song. That is exactly what I and the other 1300 fans in the venue did. The song in question was ‘Elephant’. This was the stand out track of the night. The massive sound of the driven drums along with the sinister distorted guitar rift lifted the crowd into another dimension. Later that evening I tried to recreate this noise with my mouth showing just how this band has a hold on me.

This is the last night of a huge European tour for the Perth outfit, but you would never have been able to tell. As the packed crowd shows their appreciation for ‘alter ego’, the psychedelic grooves capture your full attention making it near impossible to take your eyes of the stage. Even for a second.

‘Apocalypse dreams’ was the penultimate song of the evening, before the band vanishes from the stage for the encore. Not leaving the crowd waiting too long, the band return to the stage thanking the huge Glasgow audience for making it such a special night for them to finish their tour. Suddenly the driven tones of ‘half full glass of wine’ took Tame Impala on one last ride, and what a ride it has been from the first minute these hugely talented and unique guys took the stage ninety minutes before.
