MOST recognisable as a longstanding member of New York alt-indie outfit Vampire Weekend, it appears that Chris Baio is no longer content to halt his creativity whilst the band are enjoying some down time.
Set to release his debut solo LP The Names via Glassnote in a matter of weeks, the musician; working under the sole name of BAIO, has released the record’s up-tempo title track.
Debuting on Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show last night, ‘The Names’ is more than a mere departure away from the sound of his immensely popular band, instead seeing him completely uproot from the realms of indie and into the booming genre of art-pop.
Inherently danceable whilst intelligently put together, ‘The Names’ is reminiscent of the output of producers such as The 2 Bears and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaur with more of a glistening and poppy sheen. Hitting its apex during an affecting chorus, BAIO has delivered a phenomenal track that strikes the perfect balance between aloof and instantaneously engaging.
BAIO’s The Names will be released on the 18th September 2015 via Glassnote.
