THE
brainchild of the musically brazen Dev Hynes (formerly a member of Test Icicles and Lightspeed Champion), Blood Orange is unquestionably the outlet Hynes seems most comfortable in. Without creative restrictions, he pushes the limits of not only genres but what is capable with modern technology and production techniques. And he sounds mesmerising as ever on ‘Sandra’s Smile’, a sultry R&B jam which exudes originality and flair.

Bursting with dense 808 beats the track features soothing vocals which could’ve been the work of the often forgotten Terrence Trent D’arby. There’s an inherent sense of vulnerability which permeates throughout the track and the inclusion of a dizzying saxophone solo at the midway point only aids in making ‘Sandra’s Smile’ a track which demands repeat listens.

With little known as to what Hynes is plotting, check out the track below along with its black and white video that sees the multi-faceted musician partake in some beautifully choreographed dancing on the streets of New York.
