ADORED
by the underground and regularly cited by blogs and critics as among the foremost purveyors of psychedelia in the modern era, there are many music lovers to whom Anton Newcombe’s Brian Jonestown Massacre simply can do no wrong.

Dedicating the tracks to fellow pioneers and innovative artists such as  The Velvet Underground’s John Cale, Public Image Limited’s Jah Wobble and Peter Hook, the band have both unveiled two ‘works in progress’ entitled ‘Throbbing Gristle’ and ‘FACT 67’.

Adopting a torrid and enchanting sound derived from krautrock’s motorik rhythms and the droning noise of experimental outfits such as that which Suicide exhibited in their early years, ‘Throbbing Gristle’ sees BJM continue to flirt with all facets of the psychedelic spectrum and find themselves stumbling upon rarely traversed ground. Currently holed up in Berlin, it seems that the band are persevering with producing one of their most varied and forward-thinking LP’s yet due to the rampant dabbling with disparate ideas and sounds.

Meanwhile, ‘FACT 67’ is a stripped back affair complete with lo-fi electronics, growling guitar licks and an extremely affected vocal take from Newcombe. Demonstrating that they shan’t be deterred in their desire to contort the very fabric of their sound, the latter of the two compositions soon kicks into life and descends into madcap tangents of squalling guitar which are sure to leave long-time fans pining for more.
