BROOKE Combe has shared her excellent self-reflective debut mixtape ‘Black Is The New Gold’.

The last couple of years have taken the Edinburgh singer from performing covers in her bedroom to headlining stages, performing at SXSW and playing alongside indie veterans like The Courteeners, Miles Kane and Blossoms. Now a formidable performer in her own right, the years of gigging and honing in on her craft have come to fruition on her debut mixtape.

Lyrically exploring universal themes of love and heartbreak while digging into her black heritage, ‘Black is the New Gold’ features eight tracks, including an alternative version of popular single ‘Are You With Me?’. And with her incredible soulful vocals taking front and centre, influences of motown and funk-infused guitar licks from ‘A-Game’ combined with upbeat crowd pleasers ‘Talkin’ Bout Heartaches’ and ‘Miss Me Now’ provide an insight to the variety of musical genres that make up Combe’s acclaimed sound.

Reaching new emotional heights through poignant wordplay and carefully layered production, ‘Black Is The New Gold’ presents her most mature and sophisticated piece of work to date.

Concluding track ‘Over You’ culminates the thoughts and feelings depicted throughout the EP by stating her current state of mind towards a former lover who finally receives a “taste of their own medicine” after the deceitful experiences shared in ‘Why’d You Say You Love Me?’.

Preparing to embark on a headline UK tour with three shows already sold out including Glasgow’s QMU, Gorilla in Manchester and Newcastle’s The Cluny, Brooke Combe will have the opportunity to bring life to some of the brand new tunes features in ‘Black Is The New Gold’.
