WITH the news that they have signed a new record deal with FRKST, an imprint of 300 Entertainment, alt-rock trio Calva Louise unleashed the relentless ‘TRIAL’ last week.

Inspired by Frank Kafka’s dark 1925 novel ‘The Trial’, the track is a bold and ambitious statement from the trio that marks a new turn in their trajectory. Driven by a repetitive hook, it’s a chaotic thrill ride that sees their powerful alt-rock sound meet a futuristic, semi-industrial production. Calva Louise are moving forward with all guns blazing and it’s hugely exciting to witness.

To mark this compelling new chapter, the track has been released with spectacular new visuals recorded throughout lockdown. Lead vocalist Jess Allanic says of the concept “A storm of lightning and meteorites points to wanton destruction. A person runs, carefree and fearless, until she finds her own image trapped in a holographic false reality, becoming aware that she is inside a human-scale video game where her capacity for submission is put to the test.

“Upon realizing that all is a projection, the game ends,” she continues. “Only confusion could induce her to restart the trial, unless she dares to break out of that sordid game. This is the game of any society that imposes incoherent rules, in fact, this is as absurd as the Kafkaesque Trial”.
