UNDOUBTEDLY one of the most prolific songwriters of our generation, Will Toledo fans were overjoyed earlier this month to hear that he would be re-releasing his popular 2011 Bandcamp album Twin Fantasy on Matador Records.

First recorded at the age of nineteen on his laptop, the lo-fi cult record holds a special place in the heart of Toledo’s long-time fans and is known for its thrilling depiction of awkward teenage angst and young love. Now armed with the right tools, the enigmatic songwriter has chosen to revisit and re-record the fan-favourite project and finish it the way he always wanted it to sound.

Having already unveiled fresh versions of Beach Life in Death and Nervous Young Inhumans, he has now shared another updated single in ‘Cute Thing’. With new nods to Frank Ocean and James Brown, the lyrics aren’t the only thing that have been tweaked here; sonically, the track is sounding stronger than ever. Full of raucous guitar parts and harmonised backing vocals, it’s a rollicking multi-park epic that bursts with yearning and youthful abandon.

Car Seat Headrest plays the O2 ABC in Glasgow on the 18th May.
