‘HEAVEN’S A PLACE’ is the brilliant debut four-track EP from Connor McGlave.

Known for his evocative songwriting and strident indie anthems, East Kilbride singer-songwriter Connor McGlave has shared his debut EP ‘Heaven’s a Place’ – a collection that delves into themes such as love, relationships, and reflections on his upbringing in a working-class town in Scotland. Boasting the type of soulful, gravelly vocals that can command any room, his emotive lyrics are backed by driving indie-rock arrangements – sure to go down a storm when he headlines St Lukes this weekend on 10th August.

Opening track ‘Miles’ showcases elements of Sam Fender and Stereophonics, with reverb-soaked guitars and mellow vocals telling tales of longing. ‘Cocaine Epidemic’ presents McGlave’s ability to create honest and relatable lyricism through a commentary narrative of growing up in Scotland, driven by a catchy melodic hook. Third track ‘Halfway House’ brings that raw and raspy side of Scottish singers many have come to love, isolating imagery of struggle through solo vocals and chords strummed on an acoustic guitar. The continuity of dreamy melodies and thought-provoking lyrics are prevalent throughout this body of work, possessing relatability and reflective concepts fit for the charts. Concluding track ‘Heaven’s a Place’ reintroduces the catchy, upbeat, indie-pop vibe established from the beginning – a fitting title track to conclude with. Overall, the four-track EP presents McGlave’s class songwriting ability, taking the listener on an emotional journey through cocaine epidemics and longing for change reminiscent of early sounds from The View.
