David-Bowie-Lazarus-640x417
DAVID BOWIE
possesses something which very few in the annals of rock ‘n’ roll history do in that when he decides to grace us with new material, it’s less of a musical occurrence and more of a genuine cultural event that stops us in our tracks and often leaves the public in shock and awe that he can still diversify during the twilight of his life.

That’s precisely what’s happened on this very day with ‘Lazarus’ the second track to be taken from his upcoming ★ LP and one that’s every bit as imaginative as the title track which preceded it.

Culling elements of acid jazz, industrial, ambient and pop together like only an artist of his fortitude could, ‘Lazarus’ sees Bowie sound more pioneering and vital than the majority of modern artists would even aspire to be. Clocking in over six minutes, this expansive and daring track sees him operate in an eerily similar headspace to that which he adopted during the seminal Berlin period and indicates that he’s simply not content to grow old gracefully and leave the innovation to the music world’s young upstarts.

The track’s accompanying video is equally bewildering, indecipherable and on the cusp of disturbing. Once again teaming up with occasional Breaking Bad director Johan Renck, the video sees Bowie in a state of distress as he lies in his hospital bed; subdued and sedated as he reflects upon the life that he’s endured.

★ will be released on the 8th January 2016 via Columbia.
