DREAM WIFE have given us another taster of their upcoming album with brand new single ‘Hasta La Vista’.
Known for their cutting riffs and fiery punk anthems, the new track marks a shift towards a poppier sound – one brimming with rose-tinted nostalgia and sweet sugary melodies. With nods to Blondie and nineties girl groups, the sharp guitar work is still present and correct but it’s a more restrained offering from the trio that shines a light on Rakel Mjoll’s dreamy vocals.
The track has been accompanied by a heart-warming video that pieces together footage from the band’s childhood home videos.
They said “‘Hasta’ is one of the first songs we wrote after we completed our touring cycle for our debut album,” the band said in a statement. “We’d played over 200 shows in 18 months and had returned to London to discover that things around us had changed and so had we. Close relationships fell apart and others came together. This song is about accepting and embracing that change and being thankful to what that was and what it is today.”
“Being on tour has some similarities to living under quarantine,” they continued. “The separation from loved ones, the submission to the process, the large amounts of time in contained spaces with the same group of people. We built this band around relentless touring and the celebration and love of the live show and the community that it creates. And we’re very much looking forward to experiencing that again, when the time is right.”
Alongside the new video, Dream Wife have announced the beginning of their new podcast ‘So When You Gonna…’. Designed to shine a light on womxn and non-binary creatives in Dream Wife’s circle, it will see them discuss different aspects of the industry and offer advice to those looking to get started. The first episode will feature Marta Salogni, who produced their new album in full.
‘Hasta La Vista’ will appear on Dream Wife’s upcoming album of the same name ‘So When You Gonna…’ which is out on July 3rd via Lucky Number.
