FATHERSON have emerged from the shadows with a compelling new single called ‘Piece Of Mind’.

Marking their first release in fifteen months since their last album ‘Normal Fears’, the track sees the band take their anthemic indie-rock sound down a more dark and brooding route.

Ahead of a UK headline tour in September, ‘Piece Of Mind’, is the first of two songs that were put on hold in 2019 during a session with Cladius Mittendorfer, who produced 2018’s Sum Of All Your Parts. “We were seriously excited about the direction of the songs,” the band explain, “but hit a bit of a brick wall, so we put a pin in them, and started work on what became ‘Normal Fears’. Earlier this year (with the help of Claudius) we finally managed to finish them off. Sometimes these things take time.”

I wrote the song in a bit of an abstract headspace.” says Ross Leighton. “I wanted to see how combining my love of The Rat Pack and Radiohead would sound and I really love how it turned out. Lyrically it’s an ode to friendship and knowing that people have got your back even if you feel like you’ve got ten brains and haven’t figured any of them out yet.”

Opening with a triumphant blast of a horn that’s a recurring motif throughout, the track is driven by a powerful rhythm section – Ross Leighton’s distinctive vocals delivered over a moody, intensely atmospheric backdrop that’s not quite like anything we’ve heard from the band thus far. It’s a compelling return.
