AHEAD of the release of their highly anticipated second album Modern Ruin, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes have unveiled a video for ‘Lullaby’.
Shot, produced and directed by Carter and his bandmate Dean Richardson, the video sees the frontman lay his vulnerability bare by capturing the sleepless torture of insomnia. By frantically cutting between the light and dark images which create two sense of selves, Carter’s inner torment is conveyed by the stark contrast between his traumatic state of wake and his nightmarish sleep. The intensity of the video reflects the driving nature of the track with its guttural riffs and forceful percussion. Indicating a slight change in direction for the band, it leads to an anthemic, rock and roll explosion on the chorus; a far cry from the comforting connotations of the song’s title.
Discussing the video, Carter said: “While making the video for lullaby, we wanted to try and bring to life all the panic and terror that is born from the delirium of sleep deprivation. Floating through a world of familiar unfamiliarities tormented by a nightmarish version of himself, our protagonist struggles to discern what is real and what is dream.”
Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes are heading out on a UK tour throughout November, with nearly all dates sold out. They will appear at Edinburgh’s Bongo Club on 3rd November before heading up to Aberdeen to play the Tunnels on 4th November. The tour may be a chance to see some new material from their forthcoming album Modern Ruin, which is due for release on 27th January 2017.
