ONE of the most prominent acts on websites and new music blogs over the course of the past six months, Gengahr have been defined as an act on the rise since the tail end of 2014 when material began to emerge. Accruing bookings at several high profile festivals throughout the summer as well as a slot on the supporting bill of The Strokes’ hotly anticipated Hyde Park show, they’ve released the video for the thrilling ‘Heroine.’

Opening with chords reminiscent of Dinosaur Jr and Green River at their most sedate, ‘Heroine’ is a tender, almost ballad-like track that contains fleeting elements of doo-wop groups within its vocal patterns and melodies. Intensifying at around the two minute mark, it morphs into an abrasive slice of alt-rock that rivals artists such as Interpol and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at their most engaging.

The track’s video sees a heroic figure racing to rescue a damsel in distress in the tradition of The Grimm’s fairy tales as she lays subdued upon a sinister looking raised platform; before the song’s increase in tempo is greeted by the band in full swing.

Speaking of the concept behind the video, director Connor Gilhooly has stated that: “With Heroine, we wanted create a modern take on a classic story using a unique and visually striking aesthetic. It was also very important to highlight the energy of the track and we got the band to appear in one of their videos for the first time and  really go for it  – they’re usually all behind the camera!”

Gengahr’s debut LP A Dream Outside will be released on the 15th June 2015 via Transgressive, while those looking to catch the band live can do so on their headline UK tour in October. Watch the new video below:
