GIRL RAY charmed and mesmerised with the release of their debut album Early Grey last year; a collection full of lulling melodies, earworm choruses and heartfelt songwriting. Now the three-piece are back with a new slice of delightful indie-pop in ‘The Way We Came Back’.

Written by Poppy Hankin at the tender age of 16, the single is a nice follow-up to the album with its warm lilting vocals, light harmonies and rich melodies. “It’s cute, I guess,” says the band’s Sophie Moss. “You kinda wanna skip to it, you know? Makes you think about arguments but it doesn’t make you hate them that much. It’s an early, early – we’re talking pre-Earl Grey here – banger that we wanted to oil up. A plump cow that needed to be milked. It was one of the first songs Poppy wrote when she was 16 which we all found pretty impressive. Sly arrangement, good vibes here.”

The accompanying video was supposedly aiming for ’60s beachy Californian pop’ vibes but instead the band are thrust into blizzard conditions on the Isle of Sheppey. Check it out below.

Girl Ray are set to embark on an extensive UK tour in April which will feature a date at Glasgow’s Art School on the 13th.
