GUNKE is the solo project of Luc Grindle, the Glasgow-based songwriter also known for his work with Dutch Wine, HEYUP and Moonsoup. Using the project to reflect on his own personal experiences and frustrations, the introspective nature of the tunes are matched by a scrappy homespun feel and playful buoyant energy.

New single ‘Mum’ marks his third release and follows on from recent track ‘Football’. This time around, Grindle reflects back on the fading embers of a dying relationship – the pessimistic lyrical content contrasted by its upbeat melodies and fizzing guitars. Bursting with bright guitar lines, catchy hooks and distorted vocals, it’s a fun track that will burrow its way into your subconscious with ease.

Grindle comments on the track: “’Mum’ is all about finding yourself in a position you are unable to escape from and requiring to see difficult situations through to the end.

“Despite the more pessimistic lyrical content, I wanted to create something more optimistic for the lyrics to sit on top of.

“‘Mum’ was a good release of energy to write during a frustrating and confusing time, it helped me understand what was going on in my life so became a very positive piece to create despite the less hopeful lyrics.”
