The band: Hector Bizerk are one of the fore-runners in what is the very niche Scottish hip-hop scene. Alongside acts like Stanley Odd though, it is a scene with huge potential. Frontman Louie is the first Scottish MC to have played T in the Park twice , and has a 14-0 record in rap battles. The duo have also played alongside Wu Tang Clan, Alt-J and MF Doom, (amongst others), an impressive CV by anyone’s standards. Hector Bizerk consists of Audrey Tait on drums and Louie on the vocals.

The sound: Their new track ‘Party at A&E’ is fairly self-explanatory. Hector Bizerk use a stripped-bare style to highlight Louie’s rapping ability. So backed by some minimal electronics and a pounding percussive rhythm, he tells the story of a classic night out that ends in blood, violence and a trip to A&E. His lyrics are mesmerising in their ability to weave a coherent story and create a perfect picture of a night out: “Everybody’s on a night on the town when it’s nice to be out on the pints and the rounds till a fights going down for the price of an ounce – should have stayed in the house.”

The lowdown: Their album Nobody Seen Nothing is on the longlist for Scottish Album of the Year. Coming up they are off on a tour of Ireland, including playing KnockanStockan Festival. As well, they are playing the Tenement Trail in October.
