ONE of the most culturally important artists of the 21st century, Julian Casablancas has never once kowtowed to any notion of what people expect from him or his projects. In keeping with this ethos, the mind-melding and wildly ambitious video for Julian Casablancas + The Voidz’ track ‘Human Sadness’ has finally emerged.
A hulking beast of a track clocking at 11 exhilarating minutes, this standout from their 2014 debut LP takes the swirling, retro-futuristic synth pop of his solo record ‘Phrazes For The Young’ and plunges it even further into the abyss. Laced with bizarre instrumentation, warped vocals and various forays into different genres, it’s pleasant to see him finding an excellent outlet for his creative energies alongside people who operate within the same vein as his previously released solo output.
More of a short film than a video, this magnum opus is absolutely brimming with ideas and concepts that have been consolidated into its running time.
Featuring each member of The Voidz with their own equally sorrowful or downright monotonous storyline, it portrays different degrees of sadness alongside images of the all destructive nature of the human race; most prominently its penchant for warfare, hatred and violence. Watch the video below:
