AUSTRALIAN Psych-rock band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are possibly the busiest band in the business in terms of album releases, with 7 LP’s in three years. Their latest is titled Paper Mache Dream Balloon, and will be released on the 13th November 2015, a mere six months after the amazing Quarters came out.
Once again they are moving in a different direction, with this installment centered on acoustic instruments including flutes, fiddles and clarinets.
‘Trapdoor’ is the second track to drop from the new album, with the maddening psychedelic stamp of the band all over it. The ominous tones at the start suggest a descent into mysterious places, and the song lives up to that feeling. The flutter-tongued flute is haunting and jazzy, the chorus darkly repetitive, and the distant vocals alarmingly smooth.
