LAST BOY, aka Haydn Park-Patterson, has shared his latest solo effort called ‘Lapwing’.
And on this occasion, there’s a real emphasis on the ‘solo’ given that the singer-songwriter recorded and mixed the song entirely by himself.
The DIY nature of this process undoubtedly feeds into the song – the clever vocal tracking, thumping rhythms and twanging guitars lend a raw, mantra-like quality to the performance. Appropriate given that the song is about his relationship with the earth and the natural world. It’s grounded and calming, yet imbued with an uplifting sense of optimism.
Speaking of the new song, he said: “My new song Lapwing is here. It’s a song I wrote about belonging to the earth, just like everyone and everything else. I spend a lot of time walking around the hills and I always find myself coming up with lines and verses there.”
He previously shared on social media: “I called it that because a lapwing was the first bird I saw this year that signalled the start of springtime.”
