AN artist who remains at the forefront of popular music with every single release, Laura Marling is one of the most prominent female musicians to have imprinted herself on the music scene in the last decade or so.
Changing tact with her latest release Short Movie, she has followed the record’s success up with an expanded ‘Directors Cut’ which features reworked versions of tracks from the original LP.
One such track is the immense ‘I Feel Your Love’, which Marling has now released a corresponding video for.
Removing its sweeter elements to create something which is steeped in the tradition of the delta blues, the original’s delicate finger picking is replaced with a hulking wall of electric guitar that nods towards Gary Clark Jr and Joe Bonamassa .Despite the fact that her voice is known as being more gentile than the standard bearers of the music that she’s flirting with on this reworking, it actually works magnificently well and isn’t jarring in the slightest. Laura Marling’s ability to let her music breathe and change course in this manner is to be commended; as too many artists would be too preoccupied with a possible backlash from their fans to take this bold step.
Short Movie ‘Director’s Cut’ is available now. Check out the video below:
