AFTER a difficult week in which he was forced to pull out of TRNSMT Festival for isolation reasons, Luke La Volpe has come back fighting with an incendiary new single called ‘Alter Ego’.
Signalling a massive sonic shift for the singer, it’s a far cry from the brooding, bluesy anthems we’re used to hearing. Instead ‘Alter Ego’, co-written with Yungblud’s Adam Warrington and Ross Hamilton (aka Buzz Killer), is an explosive piece of modern rock influences driven by pounding drums and heavy guitars. At the centre of it all though is that incredible vocal – passionate and defiant.
“Alter Ego is an absolute banger,” says Luke, “really in your face with big beats and guitars. The lyrics came out almost in one go, from a really deep, dark place I think. It’s about slowly losing part of yourself by not being able to do the things that make you happy, but trying to find yourself again and be the person you’re meant to be. For me, it was not being able to perform, but I think everyone’s missed something fundamental that they used to take for granted.”
