SET to release his debut album ‘Crocodile DD’ on 1st December, Dundee rapper MC Salum has shared one final preview cut in ‘Jungle Kids 2’.

The track is a follow-up and a ‘sister’ track to the original ‘Jungle Kids’ – which we were a big fan of at the time of its release in 2019 with its early noughties garage vibes and huge poppy hooks. The reworked version sees him team up with vocalist Priya once again – this time though the track is slowed right down and transformed into a bittersweet moment of reflection.

MC Salum says “For me, Jungle Kids 2 feels like we’ve come full circle. The original Jungle Kids had a more optimistic feeling, but now when I listen to the song it feels bittersweet so we wanted to reflect that.”

“The songs about realising you have left someone special behind. When I was working on the new album I realised that message was still very relevant, but unlike before, it now feels too late and I think the new version shows that twist.”

With collaboration and experimentation at the heart of his approach, new album ‘Crocodile DD’ is said to pull from a wide variety of influences, while tapping into the rapper’s own personal experiences. He says “The album follows the chase for glory and what fell to the wayside. A fantasy of victory stripped back by reality: realisations too late, old bones lost and never returned. I named the album after Crocodile Dundee, but switched it to the postcode. Crocodiles outlived the dinosaurs, they’re resilient enough to survive meteors which helps set the tone.”
