THE BAND: Exhibiting innovation and aggression in equal measure, Toronto-based noise rockers METZ are one of the most interesting bands operating within modern music; possessing a cult following and an undeniable propensity for crafting great songs. Following the resounding success of their eponymous record in 2012, the three piece have aired the astounding ‘Spit You Out.’
THE SOUND: Opening with rapid fire drums and one of their trademark barrages of disjointed riffery, the track then slinks into a hypnotic groove accented by howled vocals and a hail of distortion. Bearing resemblance to some of the great bands that preceded them on the legendary Sub Pop label, there are shades of the often overlooked Green River embedded within it alongside more widely acknowledged fare such as Nirvana and Mudhoney. A brief instrumental interlude ensues, containing an incredibly warped take upon the traditional guitar solo that propels the track toward revolutionary territory; before its mesmerising central riff and abrasive chorus re-emerge to round it off in impressive fashion.
THE LOWDOWN: METZ II will be be released on May 5th 2015 via Sub Pop, whilst those looking to catch the band live can do so during a one off gig at London’s Underworld on 16th June 2015 or at Electric Picnic and End Of The Road festivals respectively.
