Roller Disco Death Party ‘Last Days of Isolation’
After emerging with invigorating debut single ‘Day By Day’ earlier this year, Roller Disco Death Party are back with ‘Last Days of Isolation’ – a track that that channels lockdown isolation. While that first track was propulsive and direct in every sense of the word, this new offering is more considered in pace – but every bit as immersive. Channelling the sonic grooves of Jaguar Ma and Happy Mondays, it’s a hypnotic offering that features vocals and lyrics from Jack McQuistan Borril (Quiche, The Joy Hotel) – his vocal sermon the perfect accompaniment to the marching beats and stabbing lyrics, as they conjure the cyclical thoughts and reflective nature of social isolation.
‘Occasions’ Strange Dimensions
Greenock-based indie-rock five-piece Strange Dimensions have followed up last year’s ‘Not Through Words, Through Thought’ EP with new single ‘Occasions’. Demonstrating a more balladic approach to their songwriting, the track features male and female vocal harmonies over a backdrop of soaring melodies and rousing guitar work. Reflective and wistful in tone, it indicates a more expansive direction for the outfit. In line with the release, frontman Paul Leslie stated, “We hope with the change, progression and versatility we show in this song, we can reach a bigger and broader audience. I think it shows what we’re capable of and the direction we want to move in.”
Twin Atlantic ‘Meltdown’
Fresh from an intimate show at the Garage in Glasgow, Twin Atlantic have shared ‘Meltdown’ – a raw and honest cut from their new album of the same name, out on 9th August. Sam McTrusty said: “This was one of the easiest songs we’ve ever written as a band. It was the last song we added to the album after we felt like a certain flavour was missing, so we wrote this with a real purpose and I think that comes across in the simple nature of all the musical parts that Ross put together.
“The track feels really raw and honest, which has always been our mission as a band. With Ross and I being dads of two we are very very familiar with the word meltdown of late. All of that being said after a meltdown you have to step back and learn from it and rebuild. Culturally it feels like we are all experiencing that right now so the word and meaning really resonated with the bigger picture of life going on around us when we made the album.”
Fourth Daughter ‘Look What You’ve Done’
Rising electronic pop producer and singer Emily Atkinson, aka Fourth Daughter, released her emotionally charged new single Look What You’ve Done via Music Is Fun. With an arresting blend of pulsating synths, luminous soundscapes and her own radiantly haunting vocals, listening to Fourth Daughter feels like bathing in the Balearic sun.
The track emerged from a creative experiment where Fourth Daughter challenged herself to make a new beat every day for 10 days, sharing each one on social media, now matter how rough or ready they were with the process, helping her overcome perfectionism and fatigue from traditional songwriting.
Man/Woman/Chainsaw ‘Ode to Clio’
London-based group Man/Woman/Chainsaw have this week announced their signing to Fat Possum, along with news of their debut EP Eazy Peazy, out November 8th, and thrilling new single “Ode To Clio.” Already a favourite in the group’s live sets, “Ode to Clio” is a rousing example of what makes the band so special – opening with charming strings and silky, yearning harmonies before building to a climax and unfolding into a cacophony of hectic drums, guitars and synths, “It took us a year to write and it’s a nonsensical collage of people and relationships we’ve encountered throughout that time – moving from serene to tumultuous, all held together by Clio’s overarching violin melody,” the band explains. “We think it’s the centerpiece of the EP, it encapsulates the range of the sound palette we work with.”
Hinds ‘Superstar’
‘Superstar’ is the latest preview from upcoming album ‘VIVA HINDS’, and finds them confronting heartbreak. Brimming with that infectious energy the band are known for, it opens with dazed, muted verses and builds and builds to an abs0lutely defiant chorus. “Superstar’ talks about the disappointment and the pain you feel when someone you love deeply, disappears with no explanation,” the now-pair have explained. “You feel worthless, you start thinking you never really knew that person and you question your shared past, and if what you remember really happened. It’s hard to let people go but writing this song helped. People need closure, and this song is ours.”
