Brooke Combe ‘Dancing At The Edge of the World’
Brooke Combe has shared her first new single of 2024 in ‘Dancing At The Edge of the World’. Written at a time when was she was embracing creative freedom, it’s a sultry, stirring track that places the spotlight on her emotive, soulful vocals. Adorned with sweeping strings, it’s full of atmosphere and evocative lyrics that paint a picture of an artist unshackled and emboldened by her own independence and creative freedom.
“I wrote this after parting ways with a major label. After feeling like I wasn’t able to pursue creating music and lyrics that I felt strongly about, I ended up with a lot of self doubt and felt as though I was jumping through hoops for people that weren’t actually performing these songs themselves.”
“It was quite a crucial point in my career. I had to go through that to find my feet. I had to stay true to myself and when I finally had the freedom, my forthcoming debut album pretty much wrote itself. The title of the track came from a book my producer was reading at the time and I instantly resonated with the quote due to the feelings I had surrounding my situation.”
Lewis McLaughlin ‘A Hope In Fear’
Lewis McLaughlin has today shared his second album ‘A Hope In Fear’. Shifting between buoyant indie-folk songs and quiet, introspective moments, it’s a beautifully crafted record that feels intimate and full of heart. The title track falls into the latter category – his soft vocals delivered over a minimalist backdrop of acoustic guitar and piano.
Conscious Pilot ‘Filth Night’
In a seemingly purple patch of creativity, Conscious Pilot have continued their rich vein of form with the release of another new single called ‘Filth Night’. Much like their recent EP ‘Epoxy Plains’, it’s a captivating listen – raw, unpredictable and bursting with a palpable, infectious energy. Careening through its sub two-minute runtime, it’s all about the gang vocals, addictive wiry guitar lines and pulsing, toe-tapping rhythms.
The Deep Blue ‘Cynical’
The Deep Blue, fresh off their debut at Glastonbury and recent winners of the Christian Raphael Prize at the Cambridge Folk Festival, have shared moving new single ‘Cynical’.
Produced by the acclaimed Matt Ingram, known for his work with The Staves, Lianne La Havas, and Florence and The Machine, the track offers a deep dive into the complexities of love and doubt. Penned by Niamh Feeney in just an hour after a revelatory phone call with a friend going through a breakup, the serene instrumental complements the vocal harmonies beautifully. They said: “‘Cynical’ is about the inner conflict of silencing your doubts to fully embrace love,” explains The Deep Blue. “It’s about the realization that despite our best efforts, sometimes the differences are too stark to overcome. And in the aftermath, the cynic inside us only grows stronger.”
Dinosuar 94 ‘Red Or Grey’
Edinburgh’s Dinosaur 94 have returned with the first new song of 2024 – ‘Red Or Grey’. Known for their raw, lo-fi indie tunes and penchant for big pop hooks, the band have honed in on their sound and emerged with one of their most dynamic offerings yet – that raw, DIY ethos is very much present and correct, as are the infectious pop melodies, but everything sounds beefed up and all the more potent.
