Fontaines D.C. ‘In The Modern World’

Fontaines D.C. have shared their new album ‘Romance’ this week – a record that looks set to catapult them to new levels of superstardom. Easily their most sonically diverse and creatively liberating album to date, it’s full of spiritual, thoughtful, knockout songs that are sure to establish them as the band of a generation. ‘In The Modern World’ was the final preview single to come out earlier this week – and you can listen to it below. It’s an existential number that’s been described as the centrepiece of the album.

Susan Bear, Jill Lorean ‘Catchfall’

‘Catchfall’ is the latest single to emerge from female and non-binary led collective Hen Hoose. Set to feature on an upcoming EP out 5th September (the second of three to be released this year), the new song sees prolific songwriter Susan Bear team up with Glasgow-based multi-instrumentalist Jill Lorean. The result is a vibrant, heady mix of ethereal vocals, thoughtful lyrics, jangly guitars and peppy rhythms.

Fourth Daughter ‘Higher (Just A Feeling)’

Fourth Daughter transports us to the Balearic sun with the release of her energetic new single ‘Higher (Just A Feeling). Speaking of the track, she said: “Lyrically the inspiration was just about how looking forward can actually be the thing to carry you – when you feel optimism about letting go and you’re just buzzing. I wish I could bottle the feeling that went into the song that day.” She captures this feeling of catharsis perfectly with an intoxicating blend of radiant vocals and pulsating synths. A soaring and luminous return, it’s an instantly addictive tune perfect for summer.

Brontes ‘Strange Town’

‘Strange Town’ is the second single from Glasgow band Brontes this month – and it’s another brilliant addition to their catalogue. Strutting rhythms and guitar lines combine to create a stirring, ominous atmosphere, as the lyrical imagery adds layers of intrigue to the dark, swirling narrative. A confident and striking track, it marks another assured step forward for the outfit.

New Shade ‘FERMENT’

New Shade emerged last week in monochrome with the release of their debut single ‘FERMENT’. We don’t know much about the new band but the track is certainly an intriguing sign of things to come – packed with confidence, ambition and hooks galore. Driven by stomping rhythms, strutting guitars and a commanding lead vocal, it’s an emphatic introduction – one that gains intensity as it moves on with a dark and electrifying instrumental.

Laura Marling ‘No One’s Gonna Love You Like I Can’

Laura Marling has shared the beautiful new single from her upcoming album ‘Patterns in Repeat’, out 25th October, ‘No One’s Gonna Love You Like I Can’ is an intimate, heartfelt track that finds her setting aside the guitar in favour a piano and a swell of strings. Like a lullaby, it’s a short yet poignant listen.
