Indoor Foxes ‘Church Music’
Following the release of ‘White Rabbit’ and ‘Plant Pot Song’ earlier this year, Indoor Foxes, aka Martha Burr, has shared a new track called ‘Church Music’. Built on a foundation of skittering beats and low-key guitar strums, it’s easily her most dynamic and accomplished offering to date -surging to life with a hard-hitting chorus that’s as addictive as it is cathartic. At the centre of it all is her captivating vocals – honest and powerful as she explores feelings of ‘loneliness’ and ’self-righteousness’, a deep longing for connection and the acceptance of letting one go. Written alongside Fatherson’s Ross Leighton and brought to life by esteemed producer Jamie Holmes, it feels anthemic yet emotive, upbeat yet wistful – a sweet balance that makes you want to go back again and again. Recently signed to Bold Cut Records, an EP called ‘Sadolescence’ is in the works and set to arrive on 9th October.
Former Champ ‘Sorry’
The brilliant Former Champ are back with another deftly crafted slice of power pop in new single ’Sorry’. The band – made up of members of Savage Mansion, Hound and Catholic Action alongside Irish singer-wongwriter Martha Ffion – have carved a reputation for their buoyant indie anthems, inspired by the likes of Teenage Fanclub, The Strokes and Thin Lizzy. Released on their own label Hand of God, ’Sorry’ explores the tumultuous nature of early thirties adulthood – where there is plenty of big decisions to make, a great deal of change, pressure and the overhanging threat of regret. However what emerges is a feeling of determination and optimism – striking a balance between the hopefulness of youth and a more realist outlook. It’s a bold, infectious and fearless return.
PG Ciarletta ‘Now That You’re Here’
After a summer of leading mass singalongs with the Tartan Army in Germany, it’s business as usual for PG Ciarletta who has returned with a new single called ‘Now That You’re Here’. Far removed from the strident indie anthems we’re used to hearing from the singer-songwriter, the track is a lighters-in-the-air emotive ballad about letting go of your fears and moving on from the past – think Busted at their most wistful. Written alongside Johnny Madden and produced by Madden and Jamie Holmes, the singalong chorus is still present and correct – making for another accomplished addition to his catalogue.
Primal Scream ‘Deep Dark Waters’
Primal Scream have shared ‘Deep Dark Waters’ from their upcoming album ‘Come Ahead’ due for release via BMG on 8th November 2024 – the band’s first new record in eight years. ‘Deep Dark Waters’ hits with urgency. Heavy basslines, shimmering backing vocals and flamenco guitars create a futuristic hook whilst Bobby Gillespie’s lyrics signal a cautionary tale. The track holds up a mirror to the dark undercurrent of our times. Speaking about the song, Bobby Gillespie said: “Deep Dark Waters is influenced by the writings of Franco ‘Bifo’ Berardi. It contains a warning from history. “Those who do not learn from the past are condemned to repeat it”.
Tom A Smith ‘I don’t want you to have to remember me for longer than you ever knew me’
Following the release of his most recent and highly-praised single “Get Me Started”, Sunderland’s Tom A. Smith with his emotive new single “I don’t want you to have to remember me for longer than you ever knew me”.
Featuring guest vocals from Swim School singer Alice Johnson, the track is a tender return – building on his dynamic songwriting date with a personal touch.
Speaking about the new track, he said, “This is in my opinion the best and most personal song I’ve ever written. I’ve met Alice and the Swim School guys and really love everything they’ve done and think our vocals complement each other perfectly. She was so innovative when working out her harmonies to the point that I can’t imagine it without her. I’m so excited for everyone to hear it and the full-length version”
TAAHLIAH ‘2018’
TAAHLIAH has announced plans for a new album called ‘Gramarye’. A nod to the Scottish root of the word ‘glamour’, the album is said to be her broadest project to date – while the AIM award-winning ‘Angelica’ was deeply personal, ‘Gramarye’ taps into her love of collaboration and finds her expanding her influences. The news arrives with new single ‘2018’, a track penned alongside friend and collaborator Naafi, which also featured contributions from Dev Hynes and Tsatsamis. TAAHLIAH says “the song is about that relationship you happen to experience when you’re 19 that leaves you bruised and battered for a disproportionate amount of time afterwards. The lyrics are so desperate and exposing. I needed a way to capture this very fervent but embryonic time in my life. It’s one of the oldest songs on my new record”.
