swim school ‘Alone With You’

swim school have announced the release of their self-titled debut album – slated for arrival on 3rd October via LAB Records. The record, produced by Iain Berryman (Wolf Alice, Beebadoobee, Young Fathers) will feature previously heard single ‘Heaven’ and new track ‘Alone With You’, also out this week. Imbued with a rose-tinted nostalgia, it’s a catchy number that encapsulates all we love about the band – full of dreamy vocals, driving guitar work and infectious hooks. The band’s Alice said of the new single, “‘Alone With You‘ is about finding the person who distracts you from harsh realities and the confort it brings you, and is one of our favourite songs to date.”

Theo Bleak ‘Said Like A Poet’

The prolific Theo Bleak has shared a poignant new single this week called ‘Said Like A Poet’. Layered with emotion, it finds the singer looking inwards – exploring her idealisation of intellect and the complexities of intellect vs emotion. Set against dreamy instrumentation, it’s a track imbued with melancholy and vulnerability, while asking deeper questions about the limitations of language. She said: Said Like A Poet” is a scathing look at how much I idealize intellect, even though I’m entirely emotionally driven. I think ideas can be beautifully written between people, but ultimately, there are concepts that lack properness—regardless of how pretentiously you write them out. I wrote this song about very human things, things I wish I knew how to ask for.”

What’s more, the track is going to feature on a new EP titled ‘Bad Luck Is Two Yellow Flowers’, arriving 15th May 2025, via Polymoon.

Jacob Alon ‘August Moon’

With their debut album ‘In Limerence’ due on 30th May, Jacob Alon has shared the beautiful ‘August Moon’. The forthcoming album was recorded in London and produced by Dan Carey, and features all of Jacob Alon’s singles released to date: “Fairy In A Bottle”, “Confession”, “Liquid Gold 25” and “Don’t Fall Asleep”. Reflecting on a ‘crazy drama’ from their past which took place on a holiday to Crete, the new track once again showcases their deft skill for storytelling and gentle, intimate folk arrangements. To mark the release of the album, Jacob Alon will headline Glasgow Art School on 5th June.

BRSR ‘Portals’

Paisley-based group BRSR first seized our attention with the likes of ‘Faceless’ and ‘Blue and Green’ in 2023  – tracks that not only injected something fresh into the local scene, but also showcased heaps of potential. Now the band are launching a new chapter with the brilliant ‘Portals’ – and they’ve returned sounding bigger and punchier than ever before. Teaming up with Gianluca Bernacchi (Gallus) on production duties, the alt-rock and metal influences are very much still present and correct; in fact, they’re even more emboldened – the track explodes to life with a surge of heavy guitars and drums, leading into brooding verses and emphatic choruses, while David Roberts has the perfect growl to suit the atmospheric backdrop. It’s a triumphant return that indicates exciting things to come.

Eriff ‘Loch’

After sharing their stunning debut single ‘Every part of you’ a few weeks ago, Eriff have returned with a new offering called ‘Loch’. It’s another beautiful track, pared back like its predecessor and led by close, intimate harmonies. Set against carefully picked guitars, the track gradually opens up with inventively layered vocals, unveiling itself like a diary entry with layers of emotion and poetic lyrics. And with Stuart Ramage at the helm, formerly of Van Ives, it bears the emotional heft of his previous material – while bringing something decidedly new and fresh to his impressive repertoire.

Goodnight Louisa ‘Jennifer Aniston’

Goodnight Louisa has continued her rich vein of form with new single ‘Jennifer Aniston’. A commanding slice of alt-pop, it finds the singer exploring the darker side of image and societal norms against strutting rhythms, inventive synths and a quietly addictive chorus. Channelling the likes of St Vincent, it’s another bold, confident return from an artist who is undoubtedly in a purple patch of creativity.

Saint Sappho ‘Floating’

Saint Sappho are back with the appropriately titled ‘Floating’ – a hazy, dreamy exploration of existentialism, isolation and optimism in our modern world. Full of reverb and heartfelt vocals, it’s an enveloping track that channels 90s indie/shoegaze heroes like REM, The Verve and Suede – all while offering their own unique stamp on the genre.
