KuLeeAngee ‘Television’
KuLeeAngee, comprised of Glasgow’s Keshav Kanabar and Edinburgh’s Duncan Grant, seized our attention when they made their TENEMENT TRAIL debut last October. They then dropped their dancefloor-ready single ‘Animated Love’ – an infectious funky number that indicated big vibrant influences like Jungle, Confidence Man and Jagwar Ma. Consider us in. They’ve now followed up with the equally catchy ‘Television’ – an instant groover that’s full of confidence and instantly addictive choruses.
Russell Stewart ‘pink and grey’
The soulful Russell Stewart is kicking off the year with a new single ‘pink and grey’. Marking his first release since 2022, it’s an entrancing number imbued with melancholy and introspection – exploring themes of loneliness, heartbreak and mental health. Looping around the same chords and beat, the minimalist soundtrack allows his smooth, velvety vocals to take centre stage, layered with rich, lush harmonies.
“Pink and grey is a snapshot of my mind when everything in life hit me at once,” explained Russell, who was shortlisted for BBC Introducing Scottish Act of the Year 2023. “All my racing thoughts and feelings that were overwhelming me, listed down to process them and clear my head. It’s cathartic to write a song in this way and, while it documents a painful moment, I sing it as a reminder that when the world feels like it’s closing in, you can find a way through.”
Goodnight Louisa ‘Actor’
Goodnight Louisa has shared a stunning new single called ‘Actor’. Se against a warm glow of synths, the track finds the Edinburgh artist exploring the feeling of “being pulled in all directions by society and expectation. Never quite getting it right no matter what you do.” This inner turmoil plays out on the track’s lyrical verses before a cathartic burst on its towering, emotional choruses. It all builds to a glorious finale – a horn-adorned section leading into the emotional climax of the song which feels as anthemic as it does deeply affecting.
Gout ‘Born Rotting’
Glasgow doom-metal outfit Gout have shared their debut EP ‘Born Rotting’. Featuring members of The Ninth Wave and Lucia & The Best Boy, the band’s music couldn’t be further away from their other projects – it’s completely entrenched in darkness, full of heavy, gloomy guitars, guttural vocals and black metal influences.
Danko ‘Having Trouble’
Scottish outfit Danko have shared a massive new single called ‘Having Trouble’. It’s an expansive rocker that recalls the likes of War on Drugs, with the grit and gnarl of early Kings of Leon. Big in sound and tone, it’s a thrilling preview of thier upcoming EP ‘Take Your Time’, out on 12th February.
Calum Bowie ‘Dream of My Own’
Rising Scottish singer-songwriter Calum Bowie has today shared new single ‘Dream Of My Own’ alongside news of his eagerly awaited debut EP, ‘Through The Window’. It follows a remarkable 2024 which saw him crowned ‘Breakthrough Artist’ at the Scottish Music Awards.
‘Dream Of My Own’ is a stirring, stripped-down acoustic ballad that builds around Calum’s yearning vocals and gently swelling strings. A contemplative coming-of-age singalong that sees the 24-year-old take stock of his life and journey so far, it’s the perfect introduction to Calum’s deft songwriting and his effortless way with a rousing melody.
“This is such a personal song for me. It’s me really opening up about how I feel chasing this dream sometimes. I talk about events throughout my life and how they play into my music,” Calum says. “It’s probably the most stripped back I’ve ever been on a record so it’s quite nerve racking showing that vulnerability to everyone. I’ve been playing it live on tour and people seem to really resonate with the lyrics. Excited to share this side of me.”
Fourth Daughter ‘Deja Vu’
Fourth Daughter, named in our TEN FOR 2025, shared a new single at the start of the year called ‘Deja Vu’. It’s the final preview of her upcoming EP, ‘Full Bloom’, out on 21st February – and it’s another vibrant, expertly crafted slice of electronic pop to add to her increasingly impressive repertoire. Set against close, pulsing beats and skittering synths, it’s a captivating listen that transports you to the club dancefloor.
