THE BAND: Following the break-up of British icons Oasis, Noel Gallagher formed Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds in 2011 with musicians from The Lemon Trees and The Zutons as touring members. His self titled debut album opened to mainly positive reviews, often landing in a top 20 position in most western charts. The following track ‘Ballad of the Mighty I’ is the latest single from it’s forthcoming follow up.

THE SOUND: The departure from his former band allowed Gallagher to depart from the acoustic anthemic sound he was often associated with. The latest track is darker in tone as Johnny Marr joins Gallagher on guitar with a use of distorted and often dissonant chords throughout. With the driven bass, keyboard and anthemic chorus, there’s an almost prog-rock angle to the single.

THE VIDEO: Gallagher has become known for his dislike of the music video, his work with Oasis being at the  forefront of that. The latest effort  is a nod to the public’s knowledge of that as it shows his growing frustration with the shooting of the video before symbolically shedding his parka and storming off after the first take. Very meta.

THE LOWDOWN: The single is taken from the upcoming album Chasing Yesterday which is to be released 2nd March 2015. Gallagher’s band are set to tour Europe across March and April, with dates listed below:
