AS if we needed any more evidence that 2016 has been a magnificent year for new music, London trio Peluché have announced details of their debut EP Utopia Village, set for release on 25th November via RIP Records.

The news follows a string of releases such as ‘Ohio’ and ‘Sin’ that have certainly turned a few heads over the past year or so; their experimental song structures, intricate layers of instrumentation and genre-spanning sound making them a thrillingly unique prospect. With the announcement of their new EP, they have also shared one of its featured tracks titled ‘Swim’; a sure indicator that the band are currently producing some of their best work yet.

The repetitive taps of the hi-hat hold the rhythm of the track, before alluring keys, a captivating bassline and beautifully warm vocals allow a wonderful dreaminess to take over. Holding a slow-burning effect that is quite different from their previous releases, the track then takes a turn on the halfway mark with more upbeat, playful rhythms on an elevating bridge which brings in layers of instrumentation; the pace quickens as a hypnotic clarinet makes itself known over a flurry of keys. The whirl of sound and changing rhythms last over six minutes, but impressively keep you entirely engaged throughout.

Capturing the sounds of a band who are honing their sound in compelling fashion, this is a track that will float into your consciousness and stay there for the foreseeable. Refusing to fall into the trappings of any conventional genre or structure, it is idiosyncratic and quirky in the most intriguing of ways; indicating the maturing of a band while retaining a refreshing sense of musical unpredictability.

Discussing their unique creative vision, the band have said: “For the three of us, our sacred little triangle of hope and happiness is growing. We have such an emotional tie to playing music that we keep going through setbacks and struggles, ignoring most people’s advice about what we “should” be and staying true to our ideas. All this has only made us stronger in what we do – we write without trying to sound like anything or be part of any particular scene. Our songs are for everyone, all we want is for others to enjoy our music and to be inspired to create.”
