LEEDS indie-rockers The Pigeon Detectives are back with a new single called ‘Lose Control’, taken from their upcoming fifth album due for release next year.
The five-piece experienced a great deal of success during the indie-rock boom of the late noughties, particularly with their platinum-selling debut album Wait For Me which featured a number of popular anthems such as ‘I’m Not Sorry’ and ‘Take Her Back’.
Three years on from their last release however and they’re back with some new material which indicates a new direction for the band. Laced with eighties post-punk vibes, the new single ‘Lose Control’ benefits from hypnotic guitar lines, danceable beats and effectively restrained lead vocals from Matt Bowman. Of course, there is still that repetitively infectious chorus that we’re used to hearing from the band before building up to a head-swirling climax which sees the track fulfil its promise. Said to be more eclectic with more varied influences, the new record was recorded with Richard Fromby, known to work with more leftfield acts such as Wild Beasts and Ghostpoet.
Frontman Matt Bowman said: “We wanted to work with someone that would challenge us in the studio and put us out of our comfort zone, not let us take any easy ways out with songs. Richard did this and made us change our approach completely from previous records. We ended up ditching a lot of tunes that had a sound that could have been on the first albums as a result.”
