FOLLOWING the release of her latest single, ‘kill yer darling’, Glasgow-based singer-songwriter Emme Woods has returned with her latest soulful offering, ‘it’s ma party’.

Known for a soulful approach to songwriting, Emme Woods has enjoyed huge adulation for her sixties-influenced swaggering sound, and ‘it’s ma party’ is no exception. Boasting fuzzy, swooning guitars, this track remains raw and in-your-face, despite the cinematic and somewhat soothing elements that flow over the top of the harsh undertones. As the song continues, the sound develops and layers further and further into a crescendo of cinematic excellence, with thunderous percussion providing the perfect compliment to swooning, raspy vocals and soul-fuelled songwriting.

In typical strutting and swaggering fashion, the lyrics of the enthralling chorus – “It’s my party, you’re not invited” – is testament to her strong, independent attitude and the ferocious, witty songwriting that has underpinned her strong, soulful sound.

The accompanying video also boasts a similar crescendo to the track itself. A hazy, 60s-feeling film blending grainy, minimal footage with stunning shots of eccentricity, style and swaggering elegance, which feels a perfect compliment to the sound of this song and Emme Woods’ songwriting and personal identity.
