EDINBURGH’S Man of Moon are in the midst of releasing a new collection of songs called ‘Chemicals – The Remixes’. With an aim of dropping one remix a week, the new project will see the duo revisit their old tunes themselves or team up with collaborators from within the Scottish music scene to come up with reimagined versions of the songs from their much-loved 2019 EP ‘Chemicals’.
After kicking things off last week with a remixed version of ‘Skin’ courtesy of Amber Leith, all slinking basslines and invasive synths, the duo are back with a new take on the EP’s opening track ‘Ride The Waves’ and TENEMENT TV are delighted to bring you an exclusive first play below.
Described by TTV upon its original release in early 2019 as the “perfect alchemy between the disparate sounds of krautrock and sprawling post-punk”, the band’s Mikey Reid gives the track the remix treatment, transforming it into an entirely different beast altogether. Exploring his love of electronic music and techno, he takes his own unconventional rhythm section from the original and gives it a new lease of life on this new, deliriously upbeat version. Like something you would hear from Confidence Man’s playful and funk-laden catalogue of backing tracks, it’s a mix that evokes the sheer euphoria of carefree nights on the club dancefloor.
Mikey said of the mix “I have always had a massive love for electronic music, techno especially when growing up, so bringing it into our music this way has been fun. I have been producing for a few years but I had never remixed anything before so getting to do it with our own tune is really cool.”
Meanwhile, his bandmate Chris discussed ‘The Remixes’ project. He said: “Since we’re all cooped inside right now for the foreseeable, looking for new films to watch and new music to listen to, we thought now was a great time to share ‘Chemicals – The Remixes’ with everyone. It is a collection of remixes of songs from our EP Chemicals that we released early last year, done by friends in the Scottish music scene! We’re very lucky to have such talented pals work with us and we’re excited for everyone to hear these mixes.”
