WHEN Pronto Mama’s debut album Any Joy finally arrived in May of this year, both band and fan breathed a collective sigh of relief that it was an incredibly vivid depiction of just how special this multi-talented band truly are.

Encompassing tracks that had long been mainstays in their repertoire alongside a healthy contingent of new composed material, it was a project that conveyed the inimitable wealth of creativity and broad scope that they possess.

Among the songs that was a more recent addition to their catalogue prior to making its way on to the record and one which brims with inventiveness and a pressing sense of urgency, the Glasgow-based six piece have released a new version of ‘Bully March’ that couldn’t feel more vital as the world continues to descend into greed-led dissaray.

Setting off with trip-hop indebted atmospherics and tempo that establishes the sense of palpable vexation and discontent that the track was born of, it soon swells with exaltant horns that shed some levity upon the darkness as Ciaran Mceneny delivers one of his most driven and empowered vocal takes yet.

Casting some light upon the the track’s key inspiration, vocalist and guitarist Marc Rooney has said:

This is a troubling time in a world rife with terrific suffering but can you think of a time this wasn’t the accepted common in OUR world? This one world. Human history hyperventilates at the thought of itself and recoils. There has always been “bad wee bastards” pushing their personal agendas at the expense and detriment of others. Maybe you have been one yourself.”

‘Bully March’ is available on all streaming platforms now via Electric Honey.
