AFTER seizing our attention with last month’s ‘A SLICK ONE’, up and coming rapper Psweatpants has propelled his growing momentum with the release of his mixtape ‘LIFE WAS SHIT, IT STILL IS NOW’.

The eight-track collection is a great entry point for those not yet acquainted with the rising talent – recently crowned winner of the best hip-hop act in the Scottish Alternative Music Awards and also nominated for the Sound of Young Scotland at the Scottish Album of the Year awards.

Growing up in South London, the rapper absorbed a variety of musical influences via his family, including grime from his brother, reggae from his dad and gospel thanks to his mother – and his mixtape offers all of these and more. With shades of Skepta, AJ Tracey and Vince Staples all thrown in the mix, his witty bars are delivered with supreme confidence and elevated by the sophisticated production – from the moody ‘GUTTER’ to the bouncy, garage-inspired THE RAVE’ which will make you yearn for summer, to the reflective and perfectly titled ‘candid’.

Despite what its title suggests, there’s a lot of reasons to be optimistic for Psweatpants. A hugely exciting release from an artist undoubtedly on the rise, tune in now.
