SCOTTISH singer-songwriter Quinny has revived his Christmas tradition with the release of ‘Boxing Day Bells’.

Following the likes of ‘Season’s Greetings from the Grotty Grotto’ from 2018, ‘It’s Not Even Your Birthday’ and ‘Christmas Gear’ from 2019 and last year’s ‘My December (How The Sun Stole Christmas)’, Quinny has kept up the annual tradition with another typically acerbic reflection on the season.

A far cry from the rose-tinted nostalgia we’d usually associate with this time of year, the new outing sees him realise that the festive season no longer has the same buzz around it as it once did – exchanging the normal tropes of yuletide joy for a healthy doses of cynicism.

“I always just try to give a different take on Christmas with my Christmas songs. Boxing Day Bells is about it not really having the same buzz around it as it used to, the idea of rose-tinted glasses and nostalgia – kind of not realising that the good old days are always happening – they are right now. The protagonist of the song is basically saying that they feel so miserable at Christmas that they’d rather just sleep through it and wake up on the other side.”

Quinny’s Crimbo Craptacular takes place at Stereo Glasgow on 21st December.
