Brooke Combe ‘Tears Won’t Lie’
Following the release of her acclaimed debut album Dancing At The Edge Of The World in 2025, Brooke Combe has returned with her infectious new single ‘Tears Won’t Lie’. The track is Brooke’s first release on Fontana Records.
Produced by The Coral’s James Skelly at Kempston Studios in Liverpool, ‘Tears Won’t Lie’ is Brooke Combe on top of her game. Packed to the brim with charm, swagger and draped in her flawless, soul-filled vocals, the track is the perfect beginning to the next chapter in Brooke’s career.
“’Tears Won’t Lie’ is a song that explores the truth that surfaces after a relationship falls apart,” Brooke says of the single. “It’s about someone who has spent years hiding their pain behind a smile, only to be confronted with the emotional reality they can’t suppress anymore. Sort of like the moment grief, self-awareness and reality meet, and you’re suddenly awake and won’t lose yourself to love again.”
“The influence soul music has had on the world of music often gets lost on people,” Brooke says of the strong community of new wave soul coming out of Scotland and the UK as a whole. “Sometimes it feels like everyone believes indie and rock music is what built UK music, but truthfully all of that came from the influence of soul scenes.”
Braes ‘Kafkaesque’
Following the release of their recent single ‘envy’, Scottish indie-showgaze risers braes are back with a new song called ‘kafkaesque’. Set to feature on a new EP titled ‘Of All The Things I Envy’, out on 20th May, the project marks a new chapter for the band, as they continue to push the parameters of their sound and inject refreshing new dynamics to their songwriting. This new track shows their more understated, melodic side, with the introduction of singer Mia adding a new layer of harmony to the mix – the dual, self-reflective lead vocals the perfect foil to the brooding rhythms and swelling guitar sections.
Frankie Morrow ‘Way Out West’
Frankie Morrow has shared the title track of her debut album – a record that captures the aftermath of a breakup and all the complex human emotions surrounding that. We’ve already heard the meditative and gently twanging single ‘The Peach’ and ‘Way Out West’ carries that forward with more energy and emotional weight. Set against acoustic strums, the instrumental is beautifully simple but it’s lifted by the singer’s emphatic vocal – it’s raw, passionate and utterly cathartic. A striking display of emotion, it’s unlike anything on the scene at the moment and a compelling insight into the upcoming record.
Snout ‘The Forays of Men into Time Magnetic and the Mysteries Untold Therein’
Seven years on from the release of their sprawling 22-track debut album ‘Unearthed’ on Bandcamp, Cumbernauld five-piece Snout are back with its follow-up ‘Dog Days’. The five friends have teamed up with Former Champ’s indie label Hand of God for the entirely self-produced and self-engineers release which comes out on 22nd May – staying true to their fiercely DIY ethos without ever compromising on their ambitious creative ideas. Packed with influences and interesting ideas, the band bring them together effortlessly and cohesively, drawing from the likes of The Las, The Kinks, Deerhunter, R. Stevie Moor, Mac DeMarco and more in its runtime. Lead single – the brilliantly titled The Forays of Men into Time Magnetic and the Mysteries Untold Therein’ – sums it up brilliantly. Musically indebted to early Women releases, it sees them spin a wistful tale of a summer spent magnet fishing, whilst considering the presence of the Roman Empire a stones throw from his childhood home by the Antonine wall. Led by buoyant guitar parts, bright melodies and pshyecdelic hues, listen in below.
Pleasure Trail ‘Repeat It’
Following a string of single releases like ‘He’s Got It’, and ‘MASC4MASC’, electro-pop artist Pleasure Trail has shared their new EP ‘Repeat It’. Featuring four tracks, including new song ‘Wasting Time’, the entirely self-recorded and self-produced project explores their queer identity, modern sexuality, the local Glasgow music and their struggles with OCD. But these themes are channelled through bright, infectious electro-pop full of classic 909 beats, driving bass sounds and catchy, looping synth sounds. Speaking on the dual meaning of the EP, they say: “I feel like repetition is so frequent for me. I love to repeat new music when it’s released, or my writing process of building loops and beats. These OCD compulsions make me feel content, but are so draining to consistently do over and over again, but with OCD there’s a sense of wanting to start fresh and try it allagain. To try ‘repeat it’ with the new information and learning you’ve made.”
she’s green ‘paper thin’
Minneapolis group she’s green have shared a new track called ‘paper thin’, set to feature on a new EP ‘swallowtail’ out on 10th July.
Laced with the melancholy of an evanescing relationship, the track is full of hazy dream pop and shoegaze textures. Speaking about the release, Zofia says: “‘paper thin’ explores the power of lust in a dying relationship: how it can be confused for love when in reality, the relationship has already faded.”
SIPHO. ‘THE FEELING’
Birmingham’s SIPHO. is back with new single “The Feeling’. Capturing the rush and vulnerability of a late-night romance, it’s a soulful, passionate return that pays homage to his classic influences – with shades of James Blake and Tame Impala’s psych elements.
Driven by rich instrumentation and dynamic vocals, he explores themes of longing, closure and emotional imbalance with raw honesty and depth. He says: ‘The Feeling’ is my attempt at something silky and passionate, but raw. Taking all of the elements of what I loved from P-funk, G-funk, psych rock and the bounce you find in R&B. I wanted to take the simplest bass line with the punchiest drums, and sing the sweetest vocals my body would let me.
I’m talking about the late night rendezvous, while still searching for closure from the situation. The yearning, giving what you can while accepting you won’t get it back. You can’t expect much so all you can do is ask for one thing… the feeling.”
