Former Champ ‘porcelain’
Following the release of their brilliant EPs Vol.1 and Vol.2, Former Champ have announced the release of their debut album ‘i saw you in paradise’ on 19th September. And having already treated us to the jangly ‘crooked little line’, the band are back with another infectious indie-pop gem called ‘porcelain’. Inspired by singer Claire McKay’s childhood at the tail end of the Troubles in Ireland, it’s a track carried by swaggering rhythms, glistening guitars and the frontwoman’s vivid lyrical narrative. Packaged into 90 seconds of sweet, addictive indie power pop, it’s another brilliant insight into the upcoming record.
Jelly ‘Forever Has A Feeling’
Jelly, aka Josh Kelly, has unveiled his second single ‘Forever Has A Feeling’. Citing the likes of David Gray, MGMT, The Streets’ Mike Skinner, and Rex Orange County as influences, the singer-songwriter blends heartfelt lyrics with shimmering synths, guitars and pop hooks. And building on the success of his debut single ‘Fallinoutoflove’, the new track, co-written by Ross Leighton, retains the same charm and sincerity of its predecessor, with his introspective lyrics on love and self-reflection delivered over a bedroom pop groove, soothing, sun-kissed melodies and vibrant guitars.
Alice Faye, Julien Santamaria ‘Here We Go All Over (Again)
Alice Faye has reunited with singer-songwriter Julien Santamaria on new single ‘Here We Go All Over (Again)’, a song about falling back into old ways with a toxic ex and watching old patterns play out. Shifting away from the 70s pop grandeur and piano-led balladry of her recent EP ‘Silly Little Fool’, this new offering draws from dreamy Laurel Canyon textures and sun-drenched 60s pop – the pair’s harmonies lending a warming nostalgia against the backdrop of bittersweet regret.
LeisureLand ‘Suzie’
With a seemingly insatiable knack for crafting catchy, guitar-driven indie tunes that capture the heart, LeisureLand are back with ‘Suzie’. Lead vocalist of the Paisley five-piece, Adam Dolan says,”Its the most natural song we’ve written…it’s a song about being lost in life, chasing your dreams despite it not being very lucrative.” Full of bright, surging guitars and upbeat melodies, there’s a bittersweet tone to the lyric – as the cathartic gang chorus offers a poignant, yet assuring, reminder that everything is going to be fine. It’s no surprise that the band are steadily amassing an impassioned, word-of-mouth following around Paisley, Glasgow and further afield.
Fog Bandits ‘This Coven’
When it comes to loud and anthemic alt-rock, few bands in Glasgow are doing it better than Fog Bandits. The Glasgow five-piece shared their debut EP ‘Coven’ last week – and it’s set to propel their growing momentum even further, bringing together a heady concoction of nu-metal, punk and 90s alt rock in incendiary fashion. Think My Chemical Romance with some added Glasgow grit and fire. From the dark and formidable opener through to the ferocious, towering of ‘Hometime’ and the exhilarating, gothic closer ‘Get a Match’, there’s so much love about this EP. Produced by regular collaborator Blair Crichton, it’s full of fier, passion and massive tunes.
Iona Zajac ‘Anton’
Iona Zajac has shared her third single of the year, the devastating ‘Anton’. In stark contrast to the joyous and liberating ‘Bang’, ‘Anton’ is a brave, direct and visceral reflection on her experiences with toxic men. Pulling from the darker recesses of her mind, the track showcases her ability to turn the most personal of experiences into a wholly gripping piece of music – opening with her haunting vocals, before the tension builds with close harmonies and a wave of emotional catharsis.
PVC ‘Lucky Kennels’
Rising out of Glasgow’s thriving grassroots scene, PVC have shared a new single called ‘Lucky Kennels’. A catchy slice of indie pop, it’s a bright and breezy return – retaining the jangly charm and raw, scrappy feel of their previous tunes with the addition of sunny harmonies and upbeat melodies.
