The Dunts ‘Waste of Space’
We last heard from The Dunts when they released their debut album ‘All That You’ve Waited For’ back in 2022 – but the Glasgow punks have re-emerged for a string of live shows in the last couple of months and the announcement of a headline show at The Poetry Club on 18th December (tickets here). Ahead of that, they’ve shared a big new track called ‘Waste of Space’, and it bears all the hallmarks of the high-energy punk sound that made them such a cult favourite a few years ago. The vocal interplay between Rab Smith and Colin McGachy is still present and correct – combined with the dynamic guitar work, acerbic lyrics, pummelling rhythms and defiant, rebellious spirit. See them next week.
Lacuna ‘Nest’
Following the release of their second EP ‘What If I Told You I’d Been Lying the Whole Time’, Lacuna have shared their third EP ‘Nest’. Darker and more intense than their previous releases, the EP details ‘the story of a soul unravelling’ – conjuring ideas of home and warmth with darker undercurrents. A band who continue to grow in confidence, it’s beautifully crafted – their intricate, dynamic soundscapes may seem more sombre but they’re no less affecting. The title track feels like a stirring, atmospheric slice of post-punk, while ‘Sister Sister’ is gentle and emotive, ‘Checkerbaord Man’ is textured with Americana hues and the ‘Magpie’ is a haunting and meditative closer, building to a harmonic finale. With each release, Lacuna push the parameters of their sound, and we can’t wait to see what comes next for them in 2026.
Soapbox ‘Boiling A Frog’
Topping off what has been a truly momentous year, SOAPBOX dropped ‘Boiling A Frog’ at the end of November. It’s a searing punk anthem that takes aim at those in power who pedal racist, classist views – reinforcing the message that refugees should be welcome. In typical SOAPBOX fashion, it pulls absolutely no punches – the band play hard and fast while Tom Rowan delivers his lyrics with fury and purpose.
Matt White and the Emulsions ‘Lovechild’
No stranger to the local live circuit, Matt White and the Emulsions made a strong first impression at TENEMENT TRAIL earlier this year. They’ve now shared their debut single ‘Lovechild’ – a fizzing slice of indie that channels noughties indie heroes like The Strokes and The Libertines. Full of dynamic guitar work and chorus hooks, it’s an emphatic introduction – with more tunes expected to emerge in the coming months.
Peach Crumb ‘You’re Too Pretty And Young To Be Sad’
Peach Crumb, the project of Becca Murph, shared her EP ‘You’re Too Pretty And Young To Be Sad’ at the end of November. Centred around introspection and personal reflection, it’s a delicately crafted collection that shines a light on mental health, personal growth and the most complex of human emotions. Written alongside Theo Bleak, it has a real warm, homespun feel to it that lends it a beautiful intimacy and closeness – her words delivered over gentle, lilting folk arrangements.
The Dress Rehearsal ‘Mind Games’
‘Mind Games’ is the latest single from The Dress Rehearsal, aka David Milne. Recently signed to 23rd Precinct/Notting Hill, the singer-songwriter is known for his classic songwriting – blending rich storytelling, melodic harmonies and baroque-styles strings and brass to great effect. On ‘Mind Games’ though, he takes another step forward – adding elements of psychedelic pop and shimmering synths to his alluring, intimate concoction. Lyrically, the track sees him explore ’emotional turbulence that arises in relationships, capturing the paranoia, doubt, and inner spirals that come with the constant second-guessing of a romantic partner’.
