A band who have been our radar for some time, Edinburgh’s Redolent have recently emerged with a renewed focus and thirst to create.
And it seems all of their hard work and commitment is starting to pay off in a big way – with the announcement that they’ve recently signed to Columbia Records.
Launching into this exciting era, the band have shared a new single called ‘Space Cadet’ and it’s a real mark of individuality. Pairing electronic and club culture tropes with indie songwriting, it’s a refreshingly original track that’s built on a foundation of skeletal loops and experimental production, with the snappy chorus adding a sense of directness.
Very much operating by their own rules, they are made up of brothers Danny and Robin Herbert, drummer Andrew Turnbull, bassist Robbie White and Alice Hancock on live samplers.
Danny says “I’m a big fan of high energy and speed when I’m making music; I like trying to be in the record as much as possible. It’s like a giant freight train with no brakes.”
Robin adds: “Space Cadet’s about frustrating social interactions with people that you don’t gel with; ones that maybe made you feel a bit daft and where you didn’t get what was going on.”
Recently announced in The Great Escape’s FIRST FIFTY for 2023, they also play our very own TENEMENT TRAIL this coming Saturday on 8th October.
