RIDE Ovada Oxford Mark Gardener Andy Bell Loz Colbert Steve Queralt by Andrew Ogilvy Photography OX4

OF all of the shoegaze bands that have reconvened in recent years, few have been able to effortlessly slip back into the creative  headspace as much as the much loved Ride have. One of the most innovative bands to have burst out from the hotbed of experimentation and excess that was the Creation Records stable, the band’s Nowhere remains one of the greatest albums of the 90’s and has been celebrated accordingly, Now over 20 years on from their last album, the band have returned with the punchy ‘Charm Assault.’

In their own words, ‘Charm Assault’ is the product of discontentment over the turmoil that the world is in today, with Andy Bell claiming it to be “a pretty straightforward expression of frustration and disgust at the people who currently run our country.”

Produced by Erol Alkan, the first offering from their upcoming new record departs with the more transcendent aspects of their sound in favour of waging war on injustice over gripping riffs and indignant vocals.

Announced earlier this afternoon, the band will play Glasgow’s Barrowlands on the 24th March as part of the BBC 6 Music Festival.
