SAVAGES

The band: Previous collaborators Savages + Bo Ningen have once again teamed up for a project, releasing the 37 minute sonic experiment ‘Words to the Blind’. London’s premier all-girl punk outfit Savages have been gaining notoriety ever since the release of 2013’s Silence Yourself, while Japanese born Bo Ningen have been creating vivid and abrasive post rock since 2007. Their work previously overlapped when Savages front woman Jehnny Beth featured on ‘CC’, one of the standout tracks from their album III, in which she provided vocals.

The sound: ‘Words To The Blind’ finds both bands in slightly unfamiliar territory, as they create a multi-lingual, avant garde soundscape which bears little resemblance to a standalone song. Inspired by the ideals of Dadaism, it was recorded live in London in May last year. Musically, it is more of a departure for Savages, whose raw and unhinged songwriting makes way for a more conceptual approach, although there are still elements of their trademark sound present. It ebbs and flows, building to many anarchic crescendos before Jehnny assumes lead vocals in the final section.
